Joie is an Ishgardian elezen, born into minor nobility. Her mother is a chirurgeon, and her dad was a certified thorn in her side. Her mother really fostered her desire to become a conjurer and suggested, much to her controlling father's wishes that she go off on her own and discover life outside of Ishgard. She left at the tender age of 29, stayed for quite some time in Gridania and discovered she had a gift called 'the echo". She was trained as a white mage and eventually joined up with the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. She goes on to be a highly regarded woman known as "The Warrior of Light".

She is a traveling healer who is best friends with Megumi Yukimura, and often comes along on her long and arduous journeys. She has a husband (Chai) and two children (son&daughter).
